...so we can bury our highways. A brief analysis of the next batch of infrastructure grants.
If you think we’re done talking about infrastructure because the IIJA passed a few weeks ago, you’re certainly not on the right site.
It is, in fact, time to look at the latest iteration of USDOT’s discretionary grant program, now called RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) but once called TIGER and BUILD. We love five-letter acronyms.
Why RAISE?
This investment vehicle helps states and local governments, public authorities, and government coalitions build federally funded projects that don’t easily fit into criteria typically reserved for annual, typical formula funding. These grants are known as discretionary because it’s up to the Secretary of Transportation’s discretion to select worthy projects to fund.
