As a Regenerative Travel Practitioner, I am watching the AV progression closely. So many benefits to tourists who only understand a money driven industry. True travelers note the absence of consideration for the Communities living with these wandering menaces, and the extraction of jobs (Comvmerce) for every single vehicle out there. True Travelers want a local human driving the car, it's part of our experience (Culture) and how we get to know the place. Yet, forthe Conservation of our environment, of course, the EV is already doing its part of the job in the tourism industry. The next Travel Genius will simply design a AV with the option to chose a human driver in the front and watch travelers choices.
thanks for your interesting perspective. what do you see as the time horizon before we can truly judge these vehicles effectiveness at solving the ultimate A ---> B travel problem? years? decades?
Great question... that is exactly what Regenerative Travel Practitioners are trying to show. Introduce community level discussions to inform how and why AVs are operating in their neighborhood and you could start measuring the impact right away. We are using the 4Cs Framework to address solutions in communities; Community, Culture, Conservation, and Commerce, and we are testing with MEL in communities globally through 2026.
Allow me to clarify. Your article for example did not address the loss of jobs, Commerce, which is connected to the Community directly. Has anyone in the AV community done the analysis of just what that means for a city like New York? Tourist see cheaper fares, Regenerative Travelers like myself (and there are many) see another corporation taking from local communities, and will choose an alternative that involves a human, preferably one they can pay directly.
